Ingredient Versatility: Acetyl Zingerone & Skin Care

by Ewelina Aiossa

Acetyl zingerone is a derivative of zingerone, a natural compound found in ginger. It has been gaining attention in the personal care industry for its potential skin benefits as some studies suggest that it may have potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiaging effects.

BENEFITS

Antioxidant

Acetyl zingerone has been shown to have antioxidant activity and help protect skin from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage cells and contribute to premature aging and other skin concerns.

What makes the unique molecular structure of acetyl zingerone noteworthy is that it equips the antioxidant with unique capabilities to directly and efficiently neutralize several forms of reactive oxygen species (ROS), including those that are free radicals as well as highly reactive nonradicals and do so with high efficiency. Similarly, the chemical structure of acetyl zingerone promotes the neutralization of free radicals through physical quenching, as opposed to a chemical reaction, without being consumed in the process; thus, classifying acetyl zingerone as a nonsacrificial, self-regenerating, omniantioxidant.
