Experienced Waxing: Working Smarter & Faster

by Cali VanAelst, L.E., national training director for Cirepil USA by Perron Rigot

Waxing is different than other aesthetic services when it comes to booking time. For example, for a facial or microdermabrasion, one hour might be booked. For waxing, however, the time allotted for the service is often based on the experience of the waxing professional. A more experienced waxer may schedule 15 minutes for a Brazilian wax service, while a fresh graduate may need 45 minutes for the same service. A quicker waxing service results in a happier client; less time to sit in an awkward position and less time out of their schedule. For the waxer, more clients serviced in one day equals more revenue brought in. In other words, time is money.

The current social media trend of pushing professionals to wax faster and faster has resulted in the industry going from the perfect Brazilian in 30 minutes to the 10-minute Brazilian to the best Brazilian in eight minutes. Time might be money, but client comfort paired with excellent service and waxing that leaves hair-free, healthy skin behind must be the priority. Is it possible to do a quality waxing service in five, eight, or even 10 minutes? Can there be a balance of time and quality? It has been said before and should be said again: one cannot do fast what one cannot do well. The goal is not to perform the fastest waxing possible; the goal is to work smarter to become faster.
