MEET THE PRESENTERS

Chloe Williams is a registered holistic nutritionist (RHN) and founder of Eunoia Wellness Co, where she specializes in hormone and gut health. It was her own experience with health problems including extreme fatigue, digestive issues, and cystic acne which led her to discover the transformative power of holistic health. With the guidance of a naturopathic doctor, she experienced the magic the right nutrition can bring and inspired her to pursue a career in nutrition. Joining a health clinic, she began her mission of supporting women in her community and has since amassed Chloe TikTok 800,000 followers, has partnered with global brands, and continues to amplify the holistic health message.

Kelsey Duque, a licensed aesthetician of over eight years and a Certified Acne Expert for 5 years. Trained by Laura Cooksey herself, Duque began treating acne clients in the Face Reality Acne Clinic and later played a key role in onboarding and supporting Face Reality’s Acne Expert community. As education development manager and educator, she oversees professional training, and develops Face Reality’s educational materials, protocols, and classes nationally for the brand’s Acne Professional Program. Alongside Laura Cooksey, co-founder of Face Reality Skincare, she is an expert at educating both clients and professionals on the treatment of acne using the safe and effective personalized protocols employed in the Face Reality Clear Skin Method.

Whatis your educational background, and how do you continue your education in the industry?

Iam a master aesthetician and laser technician and have just received my electrolysis certification. I have always worked to stay educated about the skin care and beauty industry, and I am really passionate about every new thing. I continue my education through in-person classes and online courses.

Howlong have you been practicing, and why did you choose this field?

Ihave been an aesthetician for 27 years. I began my career in Hungary, and then connected my work as an aesthetics instructor to workin Virginia eight years ago. I finally came to work in Florida two years ago. I became an aesthetician because I have always loved the beauty industry and wanted to make others feel more beautiful. I also loved studying and learning more about skin and how it functionsas an organ.

We get monthly reminders so we can stay informed about what is happening and canimmediately translate new techniques in a practical way in the treatment room.

Afterthe professional treatments, we always consult on what would be the best products to help maintain the effects of the facial. Besidesworking with the brand, what else has helped you become one of the best?

Itake the clients on a journey through education and consultation so that they will not only receive the instant gratification of the visible results but will also be able to retain the benefitsat home. It is so important to educate my clients on the proper skin care, from cleansing to moisturization to especially protection because of the weather in Florida.

Howdo you give back to the industry or community?

Igive back to my community through the positive energy I bring to my work, which affects not only my clients but my co-workers. It is what we give each other that is important. Here at the CONRAD I am always giving skin advice – how skin can be maintained, howto be diligent, and the steps clients need to take to have beautiful skin. I give back by always educating. This creates a domino effect.

Why Skin Mapping Matters 

The art of mapping the face has been around for thousands of years. In the past several years, I have made some interesting discoveries about the patterns on the face and body that are shared by many. As I dove further into the medical history of certain clients, I learned that Skin Mapping is not just a fun tool to use but a critical part of skin analysis that makes the diagnosis and treatment of what is going on much easier.

Penny Saved, Penny Earned: Reducing Overhead

In today’s economy, improving the bottom line is an important goal. One way to do so is to take a magnifying glass and carefully review overhead costs. Overhead refers to expenses such as equipment, retail product inventory, spa supplies, payroll, rent, utilities, licensing, insurance, taxes, merchant service fees, and marketing. While some of these are fixed costs, others can be reduced with some focused effort.

CUTTING COSTS

First, review and streamline expenses. Conduct a thorough review of the spa’s expenses to identify areas where costs can be cut without compromising quality or service. Look for opportunities to negotiate better terms with suppliers, find

more cost-effective alternatives, or eliminate unnecessary expenses. 

Next is inventory management. Who oversees inventory? The best practice is for at least two people to be involved for security purposes. Optimize inventory management to minimize carrying costs and avoid over- and understocking. Consider using inventory tracking systems, forecasting techniques, and just-in-time inventory practices to ensure efficient inventory turnover and minimize waste. Many computer software programs offer inventory control. Start by researching options offered in your current system first, then look into reducing inventory. Many spas make the mistake of carrying surplus inventory. This ties up working capital in products that may become obsolete or outdated before they get sold or used.

New Heights: High Altitude Skin Care

 

Living and treating clients at high altitudes presents challenges to skin care professionals for so many reasons. For example, Colorado’s extreme weather can be particularly unforgiving on skin, and those with an affinity for spending time outdoors are constantly putting their skin in harsh conditions. The first thing visitors will often say is how dry their skin is and the effects the lack of oxygen is having on their overall feeling of wellbeing while they adjust to the altitude.

How does skin respond to more extreme environments? For one thing, the extreme temperatures and increased ultraviolet exposure causes damage to the acid mantle. Because the air at higher altitudes is dry, skin is exposed to significantly less humidity, which causes cells to become dehydrated. Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) compromises the barrier function and with the lack of moisture, skin feels dry and itchy and looks weathered in appearance. In turn, dry skin cells can build up and absorb oil in the pores which can cause mild to severe acne.
