This or That: Hydrating Versus Moisturizing

Products that are moisturizing in nature are geared towards improving dry skin by decreasing water loss. Dry skin lacks oil and does not produce enough lipid cells on its own. Moisturizing products help trap the skin’s natural oils and lipids, preventing water loss and locking in moisture. Dry skin is a specific skin type that benefits from the use of moisturizing products.

Hydrating products aim to add water to skin that is dehydrated and lacking in water. These products typically contain humectants and help trap water by catching moisture from the air to saturate through the skin layers. Dehydrated skin is something everyone can experience, regardless of skin type.
