Probiotics

  • Probiotics are living, good bacteria found in the gut that protects the body from harmful bacteria.
  • The benefits of probiotics include improving digestive function, reducing gastrointestinal discomfort associated with inflammatory bowel disease, and boosting the immune system.
  • Probiotics can be taken as a supplement or consumed through foods rich in probiotics such as yogurt, sauerkraut, pickles, and cottage cheese.
  • Probiotics, while beneficial, can neither treat nor cure any gastrointestinal disease or condition.

Taking probiotics while on antibiotics may prevent destruction of good bacteria in the gut that could lead to life-threatening intestinal infections.
