Dry brushing has become an ongoing consumer trend lately! But what exactly is it? Dry brushing is a popular spa technique that assists to minimize the appearance of saddle bag skin, also known as cellulite, by sloughing those dry, flaky upper skin cells for visibly smoother, more radiant skin.

In other words, dry brushing is a dry method of exfoliation (with no water or creams) for an invigorating feeling and smooth skin appearance. Other benefits of dry brushing include enhancing circulation underneath the skin, tightening, firming, and visibly improving the appearance of skin. It invigorates and helps the natural detoxification process, as well as fights against ingrown hairs. Dry brushing specifically targets the saddle bag/thigh region because it rids of the dry, dead skin that accumulates in that area. Dry brushes should only be used on dry skin prior to showering.
Begin at the soles of the feet using light pressure, continuing to work up the front and back of the legs in long, upward sweeps toward the heart. Continue on to the hands and arms, including the stomach and back, finishing with the neck and scalp. Do not use on face, chest, or any other sensitive areas, including sunburn. Always opt for a natural bristle brush (cactus/agave bristle is ideal). Brush bristles should be firm to the touch but not hard. Often, a brush without a handle is easier to use, especially on those hard-to-reach spots. Dry brushing can be performed daily and should take about five to 10 minutes. It is recommended, however, to dry brush every other day. To keep a dry brush in great condition, clean it weekly with a spray mist of water and natural antiseptic oils like tea tree or eucalyptus.
