With each new day seems to come a new trend to keep up with on social media. Short-form video apps like Instagram or REDnote (a Chinese social media app that many are using after the reported TikTok ban) are flooded with millions of posts each day that are recreations of trending dances or lip-syncs to trending audios, and with the cacophony of noise it can seem impossible to keep up. So, with the ceaselessly changing attention of the social audience, how is it possible to keep up with everything and stay on top of trending posts that can attract new audience members?
STAY ENGAGED
Now, there is much to say for limiting one’s screen time. Too much time spent on social media can be a negative thing, leading to doom scrolling, self-consciousness, or simply just wasted time. However, the best way to stay plugged in with new trends is to participate on social media platforms. Especially with short-form video platforms, the all-knowing algorithm will feed you content that it deems is aligned with your interests, personality, and is likely to keep you scrolling. The more views a video has, the more it will be served up on other users’ feeds. So, if you take 30 minutes a day (or four hours, as is the average for the United States) to scroll through your platforms, you’re bound to connect with trends that you can leverage for your own page. Most likely, if you see a certain format more than once, it’s a trend.
