Rhonda Allison founded Rhonda Allison® Cosmeceuticals in Dallas, Texas more than 20 years ago and has grown the company to become a leader in professional skin care and a recognized name across the country. Allison is respected worldwide for her innovative work with acids and chemical peels, and is a highly regarded speaker, author, and educator. Through her experience as an aesthetician, she observed firsthand the importance of active ingredients and treatments that produced real results for clients. Here is what, Rhonda Allison® Cosmeceuticals’ CEO Rhonda Allison had to say during a recent interview.

Q: What is the strength behind Rhonda Allison Skincare?

A: There are two primary driving forces behind our company. One is the product development – maintaining an expansive, diverse line that allows for more creativity and choices to address all skin needs. As well as creating products and treatments that transform the skin through the use of pure, fresh ingredients, advanced science and technology, and cutting-edge, innovative formulations. The second is providing continued education to aesthetic professionals to not only raise the bar on industry standards, but also advance their careers and grow their businesses.

Q: Many consumers have become dismayed by false promises; so, what sets you apart from other manufacturers?

A: We are not just another mainstream cosmeceutical line. I made the decision long ago to only introduce more active formulas to the market – those which require professional guidance in their use and application. Rhonda Allison systems will never be sold over-the-counter, because we believe strongly that healthy, nourished, youthful skin is achieved through active treatments and home care regimens designed by the professional through proper assessment and diagnosis. This step is essential to producing results, yet it is often overlooked and it is the reason why so many consumers have become dismayed by the false promises of some manufacturers.

Q: What motivates and drives your passion to not only create new products, but constantly reformulate existing products?

A: It all goes back to our mission in bringing honor and integrity to the aesthetic profession and our commitment to excellence. I look at the world of cosmeceuticals as something that is constantly changing as new research is performed and discoveries are made. I see it as an opportunity as aesthetic development professionals to continually look at how we can safely integrate new technology and cutting-edge ingredients into our formulas when it furthers the art of skin rejuvenation without compromising standards.

Q: What do you think about the future of Rhonda Allison Skincare?

A: It’s an exciting time to be in the skin care industry. Advancements have moved to the next generation and more and more professionals are becoming hungry for in depth knowledge. Consumers, too, are becoming more aware of what they are putting on their skin and realizing the benefits of professional-grade formulas. We remain focused on raising the bar on industry standards, educating aesthetic professionals, and continuing to innovate through research and development.

Q: This industry has boomed in terms of product lines and the advancements of formulations. However, do you believe that the education is keeping pace and preparing today’s student to be effective and safe in a treatment room, especially with such a scientifically based line, as your own?

A: That is an excellent question and one that is certainly valid. I have lamented over this for years since it is true that not every student is given a full scope of education to evolve into the more advanced genre of aesthetics. However, many schools are improving their standards, but until there is some type of nationwide curriculum, there will be inconsistencies. That is why it is incredibly important, and necessary, for companies offering any variety of tools for professionals to back them up with strong education. For this very reason, education is our number one priority in
creating relationships.

Q: Rhonda, one of the biggest challenges most aestheticians face is retailing home care. Yet you are emphatic about not selling your product line over-the-counter, because the best results come from a combined effort of active treatments and a home care regimen based on a proper assessment and diagnosis. How does the training and education you provide address this fear?

A: We realized this long ago and have made a concerted effort to address marketing techniques in all of our courses in a way that feels natural to the aesthetician. We believe that by properly assessing the skin and developing a plan for addressing specific challenges, these conversations will happen organically in the treatment room. There are so many different prompts to look for when caring for a client’s skin and ways to suggest product that don’t feel like sales. We have found if you are genuinely helping your client achieve proper skin health, they are generally open to your suggestions. I have always told aestheticians if they are not offering daily retail to their clients they are doing them a huge disservice and their clients will buy it somewhere else. As a company we do not sell to the retail buyer, as we will not compete with our clients. Professional ethics dictate that we align with our buyers, the aesthetician, and support them financially to not take their business.
