Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by enlarged ovaries that have developed small cysts around the outer edges. This endocrine disorder is the most common cause of infertility among reproductive-age women. Though attention has long been focused on the reproductive issues accompanying this condition, the clinical definition of PCOS has recently broadened to include dermatologic manifestations as well. 

Treatments of PCOS have included hormonal therapy to control androgen production and nonhormonal therapies to address specific skin conditions. While these interventions do not cure PCOS, they do mitigate its symptoms. Recently, bariatric surgery is emerging as a highly effective intervention.
