The Open Door Grant was created to support licensed aestheticians who are ready to move forward but face financial barriers at a critical moment in their professional journey. For more than 50 years, DERMASCOPE has championed the people who built the professional aesthetics industry. This grant is an extension of that mission: investing in aestheticians who have already done the work and are prepared to take a meaningful next step.

Why the Open Door Grant Exists 

Talent is not the limiting factor in aesthetics.
Access is. 

Many capable aestheticians stall at pivotal moments; not because of lack of preparation or commitment, but because education, equipment, build-out costs, and professional resources remain financially out of reach. The Open Door Grant exists to support aestheticians who are already in motion and need targeted support to move forward with confidence.  

Who Should Apply 

The Open Door Grant is intended for licensed aestheticians who can demonstrate readiness, preparation, and a clear plan for growth. 

Strong applicants may include aestheticians who are: 

• Preparing to launch a spa or solo practice within the next 6–12 months 

• Expanding an existing spa or solo practice to the next phase of growth 

• Seeking funding for education, equipment, or infrastructure tied directly to business advancement 

Applicants must: 

• Hold an active aesthetician license at the time of application and award 

• Be the owner or co-owner of the business 

• Operate within the United States 

• Provide documentation demonstrating meaningful preparation or progress 

Solo suites, storefront spas, and legally permitted home studios all qualify. 

What the Grant Can Be Used For 

Grant funds may be applied toward approved professional or business expenses, including: 

• Continuing education, certifications, or advanced training 

• Equipment or professional tools 

• Business startup or expansion costs 

• Other investments clearly tied to career or business growth 

All proposed uses must be outlined in the application and are subject to review.  

How Applications Are Evaluated 

Applications are reviewed holistically and evaluated based on: 

• Clarity of goals and readiness for the next step 

• Demonstrated preparation and momentum 

• Financial need relative to proposed use of funds 

• Potential long-term impact on the applicant’s business or career 

Funding decisions are final.  

What Happens After Selection 

The selected recipient will be notified following the review period. 

Grant recipients may be asked to: 

• Provide documentation related to fund usage 

• Share progress updates 

• Participate in a DERMASCOPE editorial feature highlighting their journey 

These elements help extend the impact of the grant beyond a single award.
