I vividly recall the year I turned 50. I lamented for the 10 months working up to it, then finally had an emotional crash six weeks before and decided to throw myself a celebration party. It was truly the most memorable birthday of my entire life.
I realized it was all in the approach, the way that I looked at turning 50. My thought process was that my great grandfather was 106 when he passed, and I was 13. I have informed all five of my children that I plan to live to 110. That being said, this was my new perspective.
The first 10 years of your life, you are pretty clueless – typical childhood years. From 10 to 20, you are a trying teenager, attempting to wrap your arms around life. From 20 to 30, you start to establish direction and determine your life plan. It is from 30 to 50 that you really start living. Should this be the case, by the time you are 50, you have really only lived for 20 years, and since I was confident that I was making it to at least 100, I had a full 50 years of living and experience left to do! I had only just begun!
With that perspective, my 50th birthday literally became the start of 50 more years of an amazing life full of family, friends, experience, and opportunity. So DERMASCOPE, happy 50th birthday! The big 5-0 has only just begun!
