I
was looking at the calendar today and started doing some math… 30-1(Thanksgiving)
=29+24=53. Care to take a guess? That’s right, as of November 1 there
are 53 shopping days until Christmas. Yikes! Are you prepared? Have you beefed
up your gift card program? What about your packages, when is the last time you
evaluated them? Have you considered promoting a special package designed and
sold exclusively through Christmas? You could call it New Year’s Resolution.
The number one New Year’s Resolution is to get in shape, or to lose x
number of pounds, or something else of that nature.

Personally I prefer the ‘get in shape’ version of that resolution.
Although, for the sake of your marketing you could define this as Achieve Wellness
in 2007 and make your New Year’s Resolution package a total wellness package.
You may even consider including educational seminars that address mind, body,
and spirit in the package such as Managing Stress, Healthy Eating Habits, and
Meditation. These classes, held monthly, could be led by individuals who are
experts in these fields with which you have created an alliance. (By the way
if you put together a monthly schedule, you are likely to entice the participants
to keep returning to the spa all year long.) For example a Personal Coach, Nutritionist,
Yoga instructor, etc, the ideas are only limited to your creativity. So push
yourself beyond the comfortable boundaries you are used to and ask yourself
what more can you/your spa do to tip the scales more in favor of wellness in
this high tech – low touch society in which we function.

By now I’m sure that you have guessed that the main theme of this issue
is Wellness and Alternative Therapies. We have also included Non-invasive Resurfacing
as a complimentary topic in this issue. With that in mind, I will tell you that
you will find four articles on Wellness and Alternative Therapies, one article
that is a bit of a bridge between these two topics, and three that are about
non-invasive resurfacing.

Wellness should be part of the goal of any serious skin care client. However,
it is a philosophy that you must embody, encourage, and teach. Just as the articles
in the June Nutrition and De-Stress issue, and September Supplements issue pointed
out skin care begins within. If you are being honest with your clients you should
begin every program with an explanation about how achieving the maximum results
are largely based on their commitment to wellness.

Be well,
Saundra
