Mole Check

Counting the number of moles on a person’s right arm may be a quick way for a person to figure out their melanoma risk. If they have more than 11 moles in this area, this could mean that they have 100 moles on their entire body.

This number of moles can indicate a risk of five to six times higher in people with lighter skin. If a person has over 50 moles on their body, they should be carefully monitored by their physician.

Every person with this risk should be doing their own skin checks – some may need help from their aesthetician if they do not have family or friends they trust to help with this.

An app called Miiskin can be purchased and downloaded for a person to use their cell phone to take photographs of their moles (or have a friend or aesthetician take the photographs), which are then stored on the app for comparison and can be a record for their dermatologist to look at.
