When formulating hydrating products, the latest research requires the formulator to consider the extracellular matrix which provides skin with its major hydration properties.1 This complex network of proteins that comprise the extracellular matrix is now referred to as the matrisome.2 Among these matrisome proteins, collagen is most abundant. Its specific amino acid sequence provides essential functions which can impact the aging process and influence the extracellular matrix and the matrisome as a whole.
