Did you know that there are parts of our body that we rarely think about … but, they play a large part in our overall health? Here is one: our sebaceous glands!
In the human anatomy, sebaceous glands are all over the body, except the lower lip, top and soles of feet, and on the palms of hands; whereas, the chest, face and upper neck have the most sebaceous glands.
From this gland an oily substance is secreted which lubricates the skin and hair follicles, thereby preventing irritation and drying of membranes. Taking this into account, it has been reported that poor hygiene may cause the sebaceous gland to be blocked.
Other reports indicate that acne, baldness, and some skin disorders may be related to excessive oily secretions from the sebaceous gland. In fact, many nutritionists believe that a diet high in fats during the teenage years could cause the sebaceous gland to be overactive.
