For decades, the beauty and skin care industries relied on animal testing to ensure the safety of their products. Many top brands, including renowned professional skin care brands, have moved towards cruelty-free policies in recent years. Unfortunately, the practice of animal testing still occurs in the industry today despite the increasing demand for products that are not tested at the expense of animal safety.
The reason some brands still test their products on animals despite a consumer shift towards more ethical methods is because of product testing regulations in the Republic of China. Although the law was updated to exclude many general cosmetics, beauty brands that want their products cleared under Chinese local law still require companies to test their products on animals. In light of this, even if a product label specifies that it is cruelty-free or not tested on animals, these assertions may not be entirely true.
