Blended Aromatherapy Recipes

Although aromatherapy has been used for hundreds of years, there has recently been a resurgence of this ancient practice. Many people are looking to alternative ways of healing and aromatherapy is one of the most popular methods to date. Aromatherapy is both simple and complex and while there is much to learn on the subject, most people find that they can adopt basic aromatherapy principles and practices into their daily lives in order to increase their overall health and wellness.

 

 

Essential oils are aromatic substances found in specialized cells or glands of certain plants. These aromatic substances are then extracted by various extraction methods that allow the cells to release their precious aromatic essence into the final product that is known as an essential oil. There are many methods for using essential oils on a daily basis, with the most popular being the use of topical preparations, inhalation, and diffusion. The great part about essential oils is that they have healing properties when inhaled or applied topically. The following recipes will highlight both topical preparations and those that require an aromatherapy diffuser.

Keep in mind, if using essential oils topically, a carrier oil should always be used for safety and utmost efficacy. There are many carrier oils to choose from, with the most popular choices being sunflower, olive, coconut, and hemp.

migraines Headache and Migraine Relief
Diffuser Blend: Add the following oils to distilled water to help relieve headaches and migraines.
3 drops of lemongrass
3 drops of lavender
3 drops of peppermint

Topical Blend: Fight headaches and migraines by applying the following combination of eucalyptus and peppermint to the soles of the feet for fast absorption, as well as to the temples with a carrier oil for quick relief.
8 drops of eucalyptus
4 drops of peppermint

Diffuser Blend: Add the following oils to distilled water to quickly freshen up an entire room and eliminate odors.
2 drops of lavender
2 drops of cedar wood
2 drops of tea tree
2 drops of orange

Diffuser Blend: Add the following oils to distilled water to uplift the spirits and fight depression.
2 drops of ylang ylang
2 drops of orange
2 drops of lavender

Topical Blend: Combine the following oils with a carrier oil.
         8 drops of orange
         2 drops of ylang ylang

 

Cold and Congestion Eliminator
Diffuser Blend: Add the following oils to distilled water to combat colds and congestion. cold-congestion
3 drops of peppermint
2 drops of eucalyptus
2 drops of tea tree
1 drop of lemon

 

hangover Hangover Helper
Diffuser Blend: Add the following oils to distilled water to rebound from a hangover.
2 drops of peppermint
2 drops of lemon
2 drops of wild orange
2 drops of grapefruit
1 drop of ginger

Topical Blend: Apply the same ratio of oils to a warm washcloth and place it on the forehead.
