While Western medicine schools studied cadavers, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) studied and documented patterns of the human, living body for thousands of years. Because of this, Eastern medicine was able to establish patterns that continued in the human body in its natural state.

Western medicine continues their dissection methods in an attempt at controlling symptoms, also known as allopathic medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at the manifestation of symptoms, whether in the body or on skin as a warning or a sign that something is wrong and unbalanced. The goal of Traditional Chinese Medicine is to always find balance and create harmony within the body, so it can restore its optimal function. This philosophy is what holism was truly built on. It gets to the bottom of the symptoms – the reason the body responded in a particular manner.
