As skin care therapist this time of year signals barely-there clothes and strappy sandals for most of your clients, which means preparation and recovery, are vital. After months of hiding underneath layers of clothes and shoes, skin needs a little refreshing as well, sloughing off the old to reveal the new. Dare we even mention body hair! While hair removal is a year-round service, never is it more appealing than in the weeks preceding swimsuit season. This is a great time to cross-promote services, as an incentive to brand new clients as well as clients who have just not tried these services yet. Of course, sun damage prevention and recovery are also imperative services. Make sure you are letting your clients know about all the ways you can assist them. It is great to keep them coming in for their regular treatments, but you should not take it for granted that they are aware of all of your services. It is your job to educate them; the greatest potential you have to increase your bottom dollar is by marketing and educating your current clients.
I just recently spent three days hosting the Professional Hair Removal Conference (PHRC) in Miami Beach, Fla. This was my third year to host the conference, which was three days of intense learning, sharing, and networking. Although, I am not a hair removal professional or skin care therapist myself; I always walk away with some fantastic new ideas and a better understanding of the people in the industry and their needs. One of my favorite sessions of this event is the discussion forum. For nearly two hours the attendees have an opportunity to discuss what is going on in their businesses, what challenges they are experiencing, what strategies have been successful for them, and how even as independent practitioners they can work together to further the progress of the industry as a whole. It is always a bit regretful when the session comes to a close because the conversation could truly go on for much, much longer. The good news is that I was able to share with those 100+ attendees and now you that the conversation did not need to end that day, but could now carry on indefinitely. How, you might ask: Through the beauty of the Internet.
Now, not only have we created a home for skin care professionals to engage in dialogue at aestheticsprofessional.com. We have recreated this concept and created a place just for hair removal professionals. So even if you were not able to attend PHRC you can still join the conversation and dialogue with your peers as often as you would like in the new Professional Hair Removal Community at www.phrconline.com. I want to leave you with this final thought, which I shared with the PHRC attendees last month. This is your magazine, your online community, and your events. We do not create them for us, but rather for you. We hope that you find them engaging, thought-provoking, and useful. We also hope that you will continue to send us feedback on how we can better meet your needs!
