STATEMENT: With a higher intake of alcohol, it is common to experience broken capillaries.

Facts: For the most part, the answer is true. Dilated capillaries can be caused by genetics, pregnancy, the pill, hormone replacement, sun damage, rosacea and/or trauma to the skin. In the short-term, high alcohol intake generally only causes flushing (generalized redness); however, long-term alcohol abuse can cause capillaries to become permanently dilated.
