In a Man's Quest to Look His Best

Written by

It is official - guys are slathering on anti-aging lotions, potions, and serums in pursuit of turning back the hands of time. Prior to 2005, facial anti-agers aimed at men were not trendy. But by 2007, crease-fighters accounted for 20 percent of the estimated 46 million in male skin care sales. Consumer spending shows that men are using products that enhance personal appearance, including anti-aging serums and lotions. With so many choices available what is a man to do? Here are a few tips from Gerald Imber, M.D.

Sleep Deprivation:
A good night’s sleep improves the overall texture of the skin and results in a fresh glow. However, a large majority of men do not get enough sleep, depriving the skin of the self-renewal process which reverses the effects of daily life and stress. Sleep deprivation can lead to the formation of dark circles, wrinkles, puffy eye bags, and fine lines.

Treatments:
Green tea bags that have been steamed and cooled in the refrigerator or freezer can be applied to the eye area to decrease puffiness with natural caffeine components. Green tea is also known for its antioxidant benefits and will neutralize free radical damage.

Aging Skin:
Men have fewer fine facial wrinkles thanks to thicker skin and hair follicles, and daily exfoliation by shaving, but men still need repair. Everybody gets sun damage. Everybody loses skin elasticity.

Treatments:
Everybody... men and women should be using antioxidants every day. In addition, applying a moisturizer and sun block are also essential to prevent aging and maintain healthy looking skin.
