Breast Cancer Awareness in the Spa

Written by   Hannah Hatcher, L.E., global educator for jane iredale

The skin care industry revolves around health and self-care, therefore, it is only fitting that skin care professionals support breast cancer awareness in their spas at all times during the year.

oneThere are multiple avenues to spreading awareness. Many product lines offer special promotions or products dedicated to the movement and donate to breast cancer support organizations. Stock up on these products and create point-of-purchase displays around the spa. The treatment room, cash wrap, and waiting room are ideal areas to create eye-catching displays utilizing signature pink ribbons, pink rose petals, and the spa's products of choice. Always clearly state which organization benefits from the client's purchases.

For a more service-oriented contribution, consider hosting an event. Charge a small reservation fee that is donated to a charity or usable towards the purchase of breast cancer awareness products and consider collaborating with other local businesses.

For example, partner with a local health clinic to host a breast cancer awareness evening. Start the event with a cocktail reception, followed by a specialist presentation to educate the attendees on the importance of regular examinations and self-checks, an educational question and answer session, complimentary miniature skin treatments with products tied back to the cause, and five minute makeup applications with pink lip products or a pink nail polish change.two

Social media is another great way to promote breast cancer awareness in the spa. Create a selfie station and donate $1 for every client who checks in to the spa and posts with a well-known breast cancer awareness hashtag. Share pictures, personal stories, words of encouragement, and support on the spa's channels and repost client contributions. This way, breast cancer awareness becomes personal, real, and easily shared.

Take some time this October to empower every person that steps into the spa. The more people know about breast cancer, the more they can support and fight the disease together.
