From dermablading to oilblading, dermaroller to microinfusion, microblading to powder brows – aesthetics is constantly evolving.   In our industry, new discoveries seem to happen as often as my four-year-old changes his mind about his favorite toy. Whether it’s a new treatment, product, ingredient, or piece of equipment, industry giants are always unveiling the next big thing in skin care. From dermablading to oilblading, dermaroller to microinfusion, microblading to powder brows – aesthetics is constantly evolving.
But, how does a professional guide themselves through all the hype of the hottest products and know what is really going to stick?
For DERMASCOPE, it comes down to keeping a pulse on the fads versus the trends in aesthetics. The variances between a short-term fad and a long-term trend can make a big difference for spas and how it affects a company’s ultimate profits. The goal is to get in on trends that alter and impact culture.
So, how do you spot a trend amongst all the fads? I think of it this way: fads tend to be specific products with a short fame span, while trends tend to veer towards general product styles and come and go more naturally as cultural behaviors wax and wane. Consider a fidget spinner, planking, and Troll dolls versus Instagram, watches, and athleisure wear.
Both trends and fads are important to identify and understand! The DERMASCOPE team and our contributors are constantly researching for the next thing to educate readers. So, it’s of no surprise to announce that we are featuring a special section in June on CBD in skin care!
By now, most professionals in the industry should be aware of this buzz word. CBD is the newest trend – yes, trend – in aesthetics and it is here to stay. To learn why it is quickly becoming a staple in skin care, check out Rising High, starting on page 81.

And, keep up with DERMASCOPE – in print, online, and on social media – to stay in touch with the latest news and trends in skin care.
