Infused Exfoliation: Jumpstarting Skin Renewal

Written by   Corey Hartung, vice president of DermaSweep

The body is in a constant state of regeneration. To that end, the skin is constantly shedding skin cells, but over time it becomes less effective and slower to renew. Older cells on the surface take longer to slough off, resulting in a dry or rough appearance of the skin. The buildup of old skin and debris can block the pores, spurring acne and giving the skin a dull appearance.

Exfoliation is needed to jumpstart the skin’s renewal to return it to health. In simple terms, exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface. It can involve mechanical or chemical means, or a combination for even greater efficacy. Proper exfoliation removes debris and dead skin, unblocking pores, revealing new cells underneath, and producing skin that looks and feels instantly smoother, softer, and brighter. Meanwhile, beneath the skin’s surface, enhanced circulation kickstarts renewal and collagen production.

The use of infusions in combination with exfoliation boosts the benefits of traditional exfoliation treatments by an ever-increasing X-factor. The removal of dead skin and the thinning of the stratum corneum by way of exfoliation makes the skin more receptive to skin care infusions being introduced, increasing penetration of those targeted ingredients.

Infusions can contain powerful, scientifically-proven skin care ingredients, including skin transforming peptides, age reversing growth factors, brightening agents, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and many other ingredients. They can be targeted to address specific concerns, such as hyperpigmentation, hydration, brightening, or reactive skin. Combining infusions containing trichloroacetic acid, alpha hydroxy acids, and other chemical peels provides the benefits of a peel without the traditional discomfort or downtime associated with peel treatments.

The combination of powerful physical exfoliation enhances delivery of active skin care ingredients and chemical peel agents to provide increased results with less irritation, peeling, and flaking by comparison to traditional treatment methods, but it also greatly increases the client’s experience. Following a treatment, the skin is instantly hydrated and the skin’s regeneration is jumpstarted like younger skin. These types of treatments are generally fast, pain-free, and can be customized based on skin type and desired outcome. In a single treatment, the skin looks healthy, radiant, and even-toned, though a series is often recommended for optimum results.
