UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa

Written by

UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa in Trancoso, Brazil incorporates the rich traditions of the native Pataxó Indians into its exclusive range of spa products and treatments. Using raw ingredients and handmade products, the hotel offers soaps, insect repellent, massage oils, and face creams made of indigenous plants, coconut, pitanga and aroeira.

1Other ingredients include shea butter, Brazil nuts, pink pepper seeds, fresh palm oil, and dark cocoa grown in the hotel’s garden. In 2012, owner and designer Wilbert Das built Bahia’s first Vichy treatment suite to accompany the three other treatment rooms,2 featuring five water jets flowing from hollowed eucalyptus trunks in a tropical wet room.
Therapies and treatments include the Moonbath Pre-Sun Body Scrub and Cacao Facial. The signature treatment is the traditional Almesacar Oil Massage which uses warm oil made from almescar, a tree sap that has a powerful moisturizing effect and distinct scent. The most unique offering is the White Clay Body Mask treatment. Guests travel to the red-colored cliffs of Taipe Beach by horseback or car for a three to four hour natural, detoxifying body scrub using the mineral-rich clay that has been used for centuries as a stress relieving therapy.3 After basking in the sun with the body covered in white clay, a quick dip in the ocean washes it all away, leaving skin fresh and smooth to the touch. Almesacar Oil Massage, 60 minutes, $110 or 90 minutes, $130; White Clay Body Mask, $180 to $360
