Skin Care MYTHS: Cucumbers treat puffy eyes.

Written by

STATEMENT: Cucumbers treat puffy eyes.

Facts: For centuries, women have been using cucumbers to beautify their eyes, and for good reason. Eye puffiness is caused by an accumulation of lymphatic fluid, inflammation, and swelling of the eye area due to factors such as lack of sleep, stress, crying, allergies, and hormonal changes. Cucumbers contain antioxidants, flavinoids, ascorbic acid, and caffeic acid, which prevents water retention, increases stimulation, reduces puffiness, calms the eye area, and creates a cooling effect that helps de-puff.
They also contain vitamin E and potassium, which help reduce aging of the eyes and mildly lighten the appearance of dark under-eye circles. Due to their high-water composition, cucumbers moisturize the skin and help reduce the appearance of fine lines. All in all, using cucumbers on a client’s eyes is a true win-win.
For best results, chill cucumber slices in the freezer prior to use. There are also professional products available that provide the same effects as the vegetable. Use chilled beauty globes combined with a de-puffing serum that contains antioxidants and caffeine to relieve the clients from unwanted puffy eyes.
