Little Piggy Perfection

Written by

For as many as 40 million Americans, unsightly toenails are a fact of life. Caused by fungus that can penetrate the nail and nail bed, thick and discolored toenails can be a serious problem for many athletes, or those just unlucky enough to have been exposed at the gym or nail salon. Onychomycosis (commonly referred to as toenail fungus) may also result in splitting of the nails or lifting of the nail bed and those who suffer from it know that it can be very difficult to treat.

Fortunately, Paul A. Kinsinger, M.D., an Illinois family physician, took to heart the concerns of his patients. "In my practice, scores of patients were complaining of ugly toenails as a result of fungal infections that just wouldn't clear up on their own," said Dr. Kinsinger.
An at-home remedy that is popular to his patients involves vinegar! The doctor explains that vinegar has natural antifungal properties and soaking the feet in a mixture of vinegar and water can help with this fungus. If you see your clients with onychomycosis, tell them to try soaking their little piggies in a mixture of vinegar and water for 20 minutes every day!
