Carbonated Bubble Masks

Written by

The latest trend in aesthetics has more in common with sparkling water than traditional skin care products! Carbonated bubble masks, which found initial popularity in Korea, create hundreds (even thousands!) of carbonated bubbles that foam on the face after application.

However, is this trend that is taking Instagram by storm creating more than just fun photographs? Should skin care professionals invest in the fun product or is it just a gimmick?

Because of the carbonation, these masks have a cleansing property that help to remove oil and dirt, keeping pimples and breakouts at bay. These masks, especially those that contain clay, are well-suited for clients with oily, acneic, and normal skin. However, clients with sensitive skin or sensitive skin conditions should avoid these masks due to the tingling sensation that they produce. While these masks are also reported to soften and exfoliate the skin, clients should not use them as a replacement for their regular exfoliation routine.

Carbonated masks are a nice alternative for clients that do not like the tightening or pinching feeling of traditional masks. They also provide a feeling of relaxation due to the massaging sensation of the bubbles. For clients that do not like to spend a lot of time on their skin care routine, these masks are often quicker and easier to remove, especially the clay versions. Carbonated bubble masks are also a great way to encourage certain client groups to use their skin care product consistently. For example, the teenage client that is reluctant about their skin care regime might be more eager to use a fun product that creates a cool reaction and a "selfie" opportunity for their social media accounts!

When it comes to carbonated bubble masks, the decision to carry them in the spa lies with the skin care professional and whether they want to stay current with the latest trends. There is no evidence that the carbonation in these masks causes them to work better than other masks: the most important factors are the ingredients and the clients comfort with the product.
