Ever wonder why natural beauty products are so popular these days? It is because they are loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that are proven to help skin look its best, while cutting out the harmful chemicals that contribute to poor health.

The truth is, the inside is the place to start in order to see results on the outside.

Berries, avocados, green tea, Greek yogurt, spinach, and broccoli are six must eat foods for glowing, healthy skin no matter the person's age.

Berries are loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds called phytonutrients. They help fight off free radicals generated from the sun, environment, and other sources we might not be aware of. Berries contain vitamin C that is necessary to preserve and make new collagen, which is the main protein in the skin that keeps it looking firm and toned.

Avocados are loaded with antioxidants but are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which helps nourish and strengthen hair and skin. Avocados also contain a zinc and B vitamins, which are essential for tissue repair and growth and help fight off the main culprits of premature aging free radicals.

Green tea contains a polyphenol called catechin. This boosts metabolism and supports the detox pathways in the body. Green tea is proven to brighten and nourish the skin and that is why it is a common ingredientt in many of the organic skin care products on the market today.

Greek yogurt is a great source of protein and probiotics. The amino acids obtained from protein that is broken down are needed to synthesize new muscle and maintain a lean body mass. The probiotics in yogurt help nourish the gut and maintain the balance of good and bad bacteria in the gastrointestinal system. More information is coming out every day about the importance of these friendly bugs and how they impact our health.

pic1Spinach is one dark leafy green vegetable that is also a rich source of iron. In order for the blood to deliver oxygen and other nutrients to all the cells in the body, including skin, iron is needed to carry and deliver them. A deficiency in this vital nutrient can cause weakness, fatigue, and even hair loss. It is important to include a food that is also a source of vitamin C with a plant source of iron, like spinach, in order for the iron to be absorbed. A good way to do this would be to have a spinach salad that includes berries and olive oil dressing to absorb these skin saving nutrients optimally.

Broccoli contains a compound that helps metabolize extra estrogens in the body which can reduce the risk of breast cancer. Too much estrogen in relation to progesterone in the body contributes to skin damaging inflammation and can intensify symptoms related to premenstrual syndrome and menopause.

There is no way to avoid getting older, but it is conceivable to fight it the whole way, age gracefully, and still look and feel the best as
humanly possible.
