EMSCULPT NEO

EMSCULPT NEO is based on an applicator simultaneously emitting synchronized RF and HIFEM+ energies.

Due to the radiofrequency heating, the muscle temperature quickly raises by several degrees. This prepares muscles for exposure to stress, similar to what a warm up activity does before any workout. In less than 4 minutes, the temperature in subcutaneous fat reaches levels that cause apoptosis, i.e. fat cells are permanently damaged and slowly removed from the body. Clinical studies showed on average a 30% reduction in subcutaneous fat.*

Bypassing the brain limitations, HIFEM+ energy contracts the muscle fibers in the area at intensities that are not achievable during voluntary workout. Extreme stress forces the muscle to adapt resulting in an increase in the number and growth of muscle fibers and cells. Clinical studies* showed on average a 25% growth in muscle volume.

Complexion Crimes: Bad Habits Impacting Clients’ Skin

Even with the best skin care treatments and routines, if clients are not looking after themselves and their skin on their own, it can be difficult to give them the glowing complexion they are after. There are a few bad habits that could be impacting your clients’ skin, but there are also ways to resolve them.

LACK OF SLEEP

The body heals and repairs itself while sleeping. Therefore, if your client isn’t getting enough rest, then it’s going to have an impact on their skin. It will slow down cellular turnover and disrupt the flow of blood to skin, making complexions dull and sallow. Over time, sleep deprivation also increases stress levels, which will make skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, and eczema flareup.

Encourage clients to get into a good nighttime routine where they get at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night. If they’re not feeling rested in the morning, they should look at ways to improve their bedroom set up such as investing in a comfortable mattress, ensuring the room is completely dark, and minimizing clutter and distractions.

POOR DIET

Your client’s diet is likely to have a big impact on their skin as well. Processed foods like white bread, white rice, chips, cakes, and sweet treats are all high glycemic foods which can cause blood sugar to rise, triggering insulin production. This can cause skin to produce more oil and cause blemishes.

Even when your client eats a fairly well-balanced diet, they still might not be getting all the vitamins and minerals they need for healthy, clear skin. Some of the key vitamins for healthy skin are:

Vitamin D: helps support the immune system and boosts the complexion

Vitamin C: an antioxidant that can protect skin from damage and also help with collagen production

Vitamin E: another antioxidant that can help protect skin from ultraviolet rays

Vitamin K: helps with blood clotting and healing, as well as improving the appearance of stretch marks, scars, and dark circles

To give skin an extra boost, it could be worth suggesting to clients to take extra vitamins. Although if clients are looking to buy vitamins online, make sure they are choosing trusted sources for vitamins that provide them with enough information about what and how much they need to take.

ALCOHOL

Another habit that can impact your client’s skin is drinking too much alcohol. One drink every now and then is fine, but more than that can cause a number of problems for skin. Firstly, it dehydrates skin, making it appear sallow and increases the appearance of pores and fine lines.

It can also inflame skin and cause conditions like acne, rosacea, or eczema to flare up. Plus, drinking can also have a negative impact on sleep and increase stress, which in turn also affects skin.

LACK OF EXERCISE

As well as improving general fitness, exercise is also important for skin. If your clients are skipping their gym sessions, then their skin is likely to suffer. Working out increases blood flow to skin, which keeps it healthy and glowing.

It also helps to reduce stress by lowering cortisol and increasing levels of positive hormones like endorphins, which can help clients achieve clear, smooth skin. If your client struggles to stay on top of their diet and exercise regularly, then it could be a good idea to find a reliable fitness program that encourages them a healthier lifestyle.

SKIPPING SPF PROTECTION

The harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun can damage skin all year round, even on cloudy days. Clients should be applying sun protectant with at least 30 sun protection factor every day and reapply it every couple of hours if they’re outside all day. It’s an important part of protecting skin and preventing premature aging.

WASHING

While it’s important to wash the face in the evening to remove all traces of makeup and dirt from the day, for many clients with certain skin issues, it can be tempting to wash the face too often.

If your client has oily skin or acne, then they might be over washing their face by trying to reduce the oil to keep skin clear. Washing the face too often can make it dry, and skin reacts by producing even more oil. Check how often clients are washing their face, and recommend they stick to washing in the morning, evening, and after exercising with products that are suitable to their skin type.

EXFOLIATING DRY SKIN

Exfoliating is a good way to remove dead skin cells and improve the appearance of dull, lifeless skin. However, if clients are using an exfoliator that’s too harsh for their skin or using it too often, then it’s likely going to aggravate their skin. Over-exfoliating can worsen acne and blemishes or cause eczema flare-ups, so it’s important that clients know which type of exfoliant they should be using and when to use it.

PRODUCT INSTABILITY

Many skin care products can take a few weeks or a month to start working, but clients are often looking for overnight results. If they’re switching products too often, then it’s likely to stress their skin out, and they won’t have a chance to see any noticeable results.

It is also important to understand how different products and ingredients work so that they’re not counteracting each other or irritating skin. If your clients are looking to buy skin care products online, they need to find reliable sources of information on the products and understand how they will work, such as through a spa’s website.

DIRTY MAKEUP BRUSHES

One thing that client's often neglect is their makeup brushes. It’s important to wash makeup brushes and sponges on a regular basis. They gather dirt and bacteria quickly, and each time your client uses their brushes and sponges, they are just spreading it around their face, causing blemishes and breakouts.

These few bad habits are just a few that clients may be making. Make sure to give clients detailed advice and tools so that they can move away from their bad habits and achieve beautiful, glowing complexions.

With all that has transpired over the last year insurance should be the last thing people should worry about. We all know the spa, wellness and beauty industries have been among the hardest hit. As restrictions lift there is sense of optimism as businesses open and get back to normal, whatever that looks like these days. Recently at PPIB we are noticing a number of companies are jumping in and out of the market. During this crucial time salon and spa owners as well as independent contractors shouldn’t have to deal with the stress of finding out their insurance carrier has gotten out of the game! Not us.

PPIB was created in 1993 with the sole purpose of designing insurance programs for industries that did not have them. First on the list was permanent cosmetics. PPIB worked closely with the Society for Permanent Cosmetic Professionals to develop underwriting standards, applications and endorsements that continue to serve this market.

In 2000, medical spas were starting to spring up everywhere. It was clear that a new program was needed. After consulting with doctors and device manufacturers, PPIB designed a program specifically for the medical spa industry. We understand the unique requirements along with the risks associated with the many procedures it provides. Our cutting-edge coverages include the newest trends like Plasma, Hyaluronic Pens, Cryotherapy and QWO / Cellulite Treatments.

Professional Skincare for Barbers

The barber industry is at a crossroads. Somewhere between innovation and tradition, the barber experience is changing. This spectrum ranges from having a cold beer with a haircut to plenty of men cutting their own hair due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With all of the restrictions placed on the service industry, people are desperate to sit down in the chair with their favorite barber just like old times. However, the barber industry could be changed forever; that is, if you are looking to revolutionize it entirely.

Personally, this past year has left me forgetting how good customer service can feel. For men, barbershops are the epitome of what good customer service can look like. Men typically do not have many one on one close interactions with other men where they can open up about their lives. But something changes when they sit down in the chair and the razors start buzzing. I don’t know… maybe it’s something they put in the Barbicide that makes men more willing to share personal information, but it is certainly true that most men look forward to chopping it up with their barber (pun intended).

With the service industry struggling in the past year, barbers are faced with a very unique opportunity. This is the opportunity to go above and beyond customer expectations when they get back in the chair. Going back to the fact that men are more willing to open up to their barber than some are to their wives, barbers are situated to be more than just a professional in the hair world, but as a holistic health guide as well. Why is this? Simply put, men lack education when it comes to their health.

Barbers as Educators
Need proof of this? Just picture a typical woman’s bathroom compared to a man’s. While yes there is an oversaturation of products for women, there is clearly a difference in the education. This gap is where barbers come in.

The bridge between education and customer service is a great opportunity to introduce men to other services outside of hair care. In particular, the most natural fit is to introduce men into proper skin hygiene. Since barbers are already beard experts, it only makes sense to continue up the rest of the face. This is a chance to introduce men to proper cleansers at the beginning of a treatment as well as offering basic mask treatments or beard facials. The best part about these services is that they naturally fit into what barbers are already doing.

Barber + Skincare Treatment
Start with a 30 second facial cleanse
Haircut
Beard (if applicable) and face facial
Trim beard
Moisturize beard and face and provide anti-aging solutions to the face

It’s that simple. And most men are going to feel like they are in paradise getting a full treatment like this. While men are still more hesitant to go to a spa and receive a facial treatment, a barber giving a basic facial feels entirely normal and men will absolutely love it. Men come to a barber to walk out feeling good about themselves. Introducing skincare into barbering services helps men leave with good looking hair and healthy skin from the one person they trust most. With the rising demand for men’s skincare in the beauty industry, barbers are best situated to capitalize on this as skin services can easily integrate into what the shop is already doing.
