Hemp Harmony: CBD-Compatible Ingredients

Written by   Lisa Richards, co-CEO and formulation specialist at L’eela CBD Body Care

A nutrient-rich ingredient, CBD, particularly that derived from whole plant extracts derived from hemp, is an oil that not only provides excellent hydration, it contains significant amounts of antioxidants, most notably vitamin C and E and amino and fatty acids. These essential elements help to improve skin tone, enhance cellular regeneration, and restore elasticity. To fully unlock the benefits of CBD, when shopping for skin care products, look for the following ingredients that pair well with CBD.

Marula Oil: Extracted from the kernels of the fruits of the Marula tree, this small molecule oil ensures better CBD delivery and boasts 60% more antioxidants than argan oil products. Moisturizing without clogging pores, this non-greasy oil is rich in essential fatty acids that mimic those that exist naturally in the outer layer of the skin. It is also packed with antioxidants including vitamins C and E, as well as flavonoids.

Buriti Oil: Found in a palm tree native to Brazil, buriti oil is the richest known source of natural antioxidant beta carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A (retinol). This antioxidant is known for igniting a healthy glow and radiant skin. Protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays and free radicals, buriti oil minimizes fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Users also report smoother, more supple skin, with reduced redness and irritation.

Rosehip Oil: Boasting fatty acids and vitamin A to moisturize skin, rosehip oil can promote skin regeneration. This healing oil has been found to reduce scars from acne or wounds and diminish the appearance of age spots and sun damage while improving skin tone and texture.

Hyaluronic Acid: A small molecule hyaluronic acid, rather than a typical larger molecule hyaluronic acid, is better for absorption and delivery of CBD, which is also a small molecule. Hyaluronic acid helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles by retaining moisture to the skin and creating a plumping effect.

Squalane: Extracted from olives and historically used in the medical field to treat wounds and skin problems, squalane is a highly-effective emollient and natural antioxidant, sealing in other ingredients that also pair well with CBD. A mimic to the body’s natural sebum, squalane has been referred to as Mother Nature’s facelift for reducing wrinkles and age spots and can help clients’ skin stay hydrated.

Paired with these ingredients, CBD can provide optimal results for skin.
