On November 11, 2018, The DermaNerd social media creator, Eli Jones, received the Donn Kerr Esthetics International Humanitarian Award at the Southern Spa and Salon Conference in Hickory, North Carolina. The honor is given annually to professionals who are nominated for their service and contributions to the spa and salon community. This year’s award was presented by executive director, Jamie Treadaway, before the recipient’s course on recognizing signs of domestic violence in the treatment room. Jones received the distinction for his longtime commitment to client skin health, aesthetics education, and industry growth.
On November 14, 2018, professional skin care company Control Corrective Skincare Systems welcomed Dawn Campbell as vice president of sales for North America. In her new role, Campbell is in charge of achieving corporate sales goals, talent development, sharing the brand’s message, and enriching both Control Corrective and its sister brand Global Beauty Private Label.

On November 9th 2018, leaders of America’s aesthetics industry lit up the red carpet at the MyFaceMyBody Awards USA 2018 the Oscars of the aesthetics industry. Held at the iconic Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, leaders in aesthetics, press, and celebrities gathered from across the United States for this night of nights. The global aesthetic awards celebrated and honored those at the pinnacle of the beauty business. MyFaceMyBody awards USA 2018 winners were selected from hundreds of applicants from across America. The lucky few now hold the prestigious title of a MyFaceMyBody global aesthetic award winner.
The gala ceremony was attended by 350 of the industry’s leading professionals, top plastic surgeons, brands, journalists, celebrities, and beauty bloggers. The awards were presided over by MyFaceMyBody director and awards founder Mr. Stephen Handisides.

September 18, 2018, prestige hair and beauty brand ECRU New York celebrated the grand opening of its namesake academy in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. The Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA), the largest non-profit funder of melanoma research worldwide, has appointed Marc Hurlbert, Ph.D. as the organization’s chief science officer. His role began November 1, 2018.
“I am honored to join the Melanoma Research Alliance as its next Chief Science Officer,” said Dr. Hurlbert. “It is a promising time for people diagnosed with melanoma, thanks in large part to MRA’s research investments that have helped to greatly expand available treatments. However, more work is needed to ensure treatments that work for all.”
Hurlbert comes to MRA after having spent more than a decade in breast cancer research.
“Dr. Hurlbert has an outstanding record as a scientist and leader and we could not be more delighted to have him join MRA,” said Debra Black, co-founder and chair of MRA. “His experience in medical research, deep knowledge of pharmacology, and ability to forge and build strategic partnerships will allow him to further propel MRA and its mission forward.”

Southeastern Esthetics Institute is honored to have graduated its 100th class on October 22, 2018. They hosted this special celebration at City Art in Columbia, South Carolina. In attendance were family, friends, fellow students, and instructors. Paula Wessinger, an instructor over the elite campus, shared her experience in teaching these individuals throughout their 20 weeks. “There were many tears and lots of hugs shared. It was a meaningful event for all,” said Wessinger.
All graduations are one of a kind and are catered toward each graduating class and student. Not one graduation is the same. Each individual is different and Southeastern Esthetics Institute understands that and speaks to each student who is moving out of the program and into the real world.

Southeastern Esthetics Institute holds a graduating licensure course approximately every five weeks, each time placing highly trained aestheticians into the heavily growing industry. The 600-hour aesthetics licensure course is the only accredited aesthetics course in the state of South Carolina. The program teaches theory, practical, and real-life aesthetics experience to create the most well-rounded individuals possible. They are pressed to be the best they can be and to participate in community service, working independently and in groups.
