The Perfect Finish: 3 Quick Makeup Products to Apply at the End of Each Spa Service

Written by   Richard Merrill-Rivas

The first few steps into color cosmetics do not have to be big. In fact, simple makeup additions to retail – or enhancements to current services, like facials or eyebrow treatments – can be a good place to start for professionals who are ready to venture out and see their businesses grow. For those who are not ready to bring on the full suite of cosmetic services, there is a simple solution available to increase retail opportunities dramatically in the treatment room.

When a client enters the treatment room, they are looking for three things: to escape their busy routine and disconnect, to receive an exceptional skin care service, and to get the tools they need to maintain their results at home.

After the perfect consultation in which the perfect products are selected for the client, and after they have been dazzled with an extraordinary treatment, what is the last thing to do before ringing them out and rebooking their next service? The answer is simple: provide the perfect finish with three simple products.

Clients are going to wear color cosmetics and research shows concealer, foundation, and lipstick are top choices for everyone, whether novice or professional. So why not make those part of the skin care treatment and grow a new stream of income?

Concealer should be chosen a shade slightly lighter than the client’s complexion to give quick coverage to blemishes or to highlight the high parts of the face. For those new to makeup application, or with busy schedules, consider stick concealers (instead of pots) for ease of application.

Foundation, whether liquid, pressed, or loose, is used to even complexion and create the client’s desired finish, whether matte, dewy, or satin.

Today, lipstick is more than color, with moisturizing ingredients to protect and hydrate – the perfect way to complete this three step finish to every facial.

Remember to note the client’s selections in their file for future reference and ordering ease. Add their favorite product from the treatment to their service total and remind them their color selections have been noted.

Utilizing these three products in services helps ensure treatment results, with homecare recommendations that have supporting ingredients, while increasing ticket averages per client, making every service a win for both the client and the spa.
