Ryan Rabah entered the aesthetic world with the introduction of the award-winning ‘Rezenerate’ modality and its revolutionary ‘Rezenerate NanoFacial.’ In addition to founding Rezenerate, Rabah is an attorney with a focus on Esthetics Licensing issues and is a vocal proponent of Esthetician Rights. To that end, he was recently invited to the Advisory Board of The Esthetician Connection, the premier networking platform for aestheticians, and he frequently collaborates with organizations nationwide that work to uphold the integrity of the industry by supporting aestheticians.

What has been the biggest change in the skin care industry?
The biggest change I have seen is how tough it is to be an aesthetician these days. The aesthetician is a unique specialization as it exists in the overlap of science and art. However, they face many issues: non-professional manufacturers and distributors selling them inferior knockoff devices, diverters selling “professional grade” products (often diluted or tampered with) online illegally, creating negative and dangerous results, various groups trying to restrict their license scope, the uninformed consumer believing, so-called, “at home” treatments equate to a professional one, and so on. The aesthetician is the single most important part of our industry because they deliver the actual skin care to the client. And yet, they are squeezed from all sides. That’s why all my skin care endeavors focused on one goal: putting the power back in the aestheticians’ hands.

Why do you think people are loyal to certain brands?
In my experience, there are three things providers look for in a skin care brand: results, recognition, and return. Results are self-explanatory — products must deliver! Recognition comes from being identified as an expert in one’s field so it is important to stay innovative. Return refers to both return on investment and returning customers. Companies helping providers meet these goals, like Rezenerate does, will have strong brand loyalty.

Is there an ingredient that you feel is a “super” ingredient?
No, there are many! Product ingredient science has made amazing recent advances so why pick one when you can use them all? Rezenerate’s philosophy is centered on a customized approach for each client. This rests on two “NANO” core concepts: modality neutrality and product neutrality. Rezenerate’s scientifically verified nanotechnology components allow us to be modality neutral, as in, to work in conjunction with other scientifically proven modalities you already use. And our concept of product neutrality is best described via an N.A.N.O. acronym: non-ablative nutrient optimization, which means that it will drastically improve the efficacy of your chosen products. Use all “super” ingredients!

How did you decide that skin care was the right industry for you?
For the most part, it was the people. The skin care industry has some of the most interesting and hard working people with which to collaborate. Prior to beginning my foray into skin care, as a business attorney, I had relationships with a number of highly successful people in various industries. One in particular was involved in bioscience and was testing nanotechnology applications for skin care and sought me out to spearhead the formation of the team that would become Rezenerate. It was so exciting to be involved in a startup that was set to bring something groundbreaking to an industry, namely, the Rezenerate Modality and Rezenerate NanoFacial.

What characteristics or skills distinguished you from your peers and enabled you to be successful so quickly?
To slightly butcher Socrates: “the only thing I know, is that I know nothing.” While opinions vary on its meaning, what I have always taken from that quote is that you should never stop seeking to learn or become dogmatic in your beliefs. I find this relevant to skin care as well as any other industry. In skin care, this means not assuming there is one, single, end-all-be-all solution for everyone, but to always strive to discover new information and keep learning and know every client is different and needs unique solutions. When we were developing the Rezenerate NanoFacial we knew we had something different with our nanotechnology that could help skin care professionals achieve customized solutions for their clients. 

Do you have a company or personal motto by which you live?
Since my childhood days growing up in Queens, New York my personal motto has been “carpe diem” or “seize the day.”  From playing sports at the park as kids to being in a courtroom to starting a company in skin care – it has served me well. We also try to incorporate this into our corporate culture. We promote a healthy work/life balance with our team.

As you grew your company, did you have any significant moments of clarity that helped shape its future and course?
Certainly, there have been many. One important one came from another Rezenerate team member and has resonated with us all very much. He pointed out very early in our beta testing phase that we were not going to be competing with other modalities, but will actually be a catalyst for almost any existing high-quality product or modality. We saw that we could excel as a stand-alone facial treatment with an aesthetician’s favorite serums or work amazing in conjunction with other modalities for more in depth facial treatments. That is where our concepts of product neutrality and modality neutrality were born.

How did you come up with the name of your business?
I came up with it lying in bed one night in one of those ‘eureka’ moments. I knew we had developed a great facial system, but what should we call it? Marketing is obviously important and I wanted something that was different, but that also encapsulated our philosophy of overall wellness, a healthy mind contributing to a healthy body and vice versa. During the beta testing, we kept hearing that the facial was very “zen-like” when compared with other more invasive modalities and that stuck with me. I remember thinking we were “regenerating their zen, regenerating their zen” and then boom...Re-ZEN-erate was born.

Do you, or your company, support any particular causes or charitable organizations?
If so, who and why? We certainly do! Rezenerate formed a charitable donation arm called “The Rez Life Initiative” to give back to the community; The Rez life Initiative epitomizes our company’s philosophy of striving to achieve beauty on the inside as well as the outside. We make monthly donations to worthy causes that we believe in, such as: Save the Children – Gulf Coast Floods Children Relief Fund, The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Forgotten Mom, Disabled American Veterans charity (DAV), Links to Freedom (for veterans and their families), JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, and on and on. We are also strong supporters of women in the workforce and are proud to employ disabled veterans at Rezenerate.

Which honor or achievement are you most proud of?
An easy one! The e-mails from our Rezenerate Authorized Providers (RAPs). On almost a daily basis, I receive emails thanking us for developing the Rezenerate Modality and Rezenerate NanoFacial. Nothing makes me as satisfied as people telling us how it has enhanced their business. Some of the RAPs got together and formed an online Rezenerate community group on Facebook, which was also really cool to see. They share Rezenerate success stories, ask questions, exchange tips, display before and after pictures, produce various user-generated protocols for tons of product lines, and so on. It is refreshing to see skin care professionals supporting each other in such a manner.

You wear so many hats in this industry. What is your secret to keeping life in balance and enjoying the journey?
Pick the right people to surround yourself with in every aspect of your life. Whether at work or outside of it, life is too short to not spend time with people you love and respect, and that love and respect you. 

How and where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in people that work hard to overcome obstacles.
