Networking: How Do You Get the Word Out?

Written by

CT"My new favorite obsession is Twitter! Through this portal I'm able to promote sales, contests, treatments, specials, etc. I also use it to give out tips to my clients. For instance, when it's hot outside I remind them to wear sunscreen, when it's cold outside I remind them about applying moisturizer. When it comes to promotions, I try to only tweet one promo every other week. I currently have 150 people following me and I hope to increase it to 300 by the end of the year!"

"There are a lot of benefits to marketing your business through the Internet – verses traditional avenues. For instance, you can target a particular market, cost is low, able to present an immediate presence, 24/7 marketing, efforts can be tracked easily, higher level of flexibility is available, and primarily your business will be advertised via word of mouth."

"The content and message of your website is extremely important. Like in most cases in the beauty industry, the same rings true for the Internet … image is everything. Your companies mission statement, message, benefits, product services, etc. all need to be clearly visible and understandable. Your clients need to be able to find what they are looking for quickly, or they will leave your site just as quickly as they logged on! Experts suggest that you basically have 8 seconds – just 8 seconds – to gain their interest. Also keep in mind that 'first impressions' are important. But, if your services and the ambiance of your spa does not match up to what you advertised online you will lose business! What's even worse is the effects negative word-of-mouth will have on your business."

"Recently I've started to send out a newsletter to all of my clients. At first I was a little afraid, because I thought it would be too overwhelming, but it's actually a lot of fun! My newsletter helps me keep in contact with clients that I see both regularly and periodically. I'm able to offer discounts and coupons, as well as announce new treatments and products. What I've found to be the most amazing is the increase of traffic that has been generated to my website and the number of referrals it has produced. It's inexpensive, it's easy and it's fun … can't beat that!"

"I have found that there are a couple of ways for beauty professionals to optimize social media. The following seem to work best for most everyone in our industry. They are simple to use and give great visibility. Blogs: Reflects your brand in your words. Post regularly, insert photos and video when possible and always use tag words; Pinterest: Share a pictorial view of your business on this platform; about.me: Independent service providers and businesses will love this simple to create splash page in lieu of a website; and finally … Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. It is important to remember to post friendly and engaging content regularly. Post your online sites when creating profiles."
