What is the worst skin care habit you have encountered?

Written by

“Clients who wash their face with regular bar soap. Unfortunately, this tends to be a common occurrence because bar soap is convenient and inexpensive. The impact that bar soap can have on skin completely depletes any advantages it may have. Why? Because most bar soaps actually dry out the facial skin; plus the fragrances added to the soap tend to irritate skin as well. I teach my clients to use a cleanser that is formulated to specifically work with their skin type.”

"It is without a doubt, scratching. It’s not an uncommon issue to encounter, but by far the worst. The problem or habit rather, always starts when the client gets a pimple and just can’t leave the blemish alone. She wants the spot to go away and believes that scratching the top of the pore, then emptying its contents by squeezing is the way to fix the issue. Instead, the problem is exacerbated due to an impaired barrier function, nerve agitation, and additional swelling. To make matters worse, the client’s actions are contradictory to her objective as she has only managed to make the blemish more apparent."

“In my opinion… one of the worst skin care habits is actually going overboard with a skin care product(s) or routine. The typical thought process behind this idea is that since a little bit of a particular product will help reverse the signs of aging, such as wrinkles; then, a lot of that same product should work that much better. But, in fact the opposite is true. I have also come across clients who have used multiple products at once, hoping again that by using more they would get better… quicker results. However, instead their skin becomes irritated and they in turn became discouraged – not only with the product but also in my abilities as an aesthetician.”

“One of the worst, and easiest habits to break, is not drinking enough water which results in skin looking dry, tired and shriveled.”

~ Jamie Trammel
