Sophisticated Skin

I recall my early years as an aesthetician and educator discussing antiaging products and aging skin. It all seemed so distant. The topic has always been at the top of the skin care agenda, but the word aging seemed to carry such a negative connotation with it, as aging skin is deemed to not be desirable.

From there, the preferred referential term became mature. Professionals would tell clients that they have did not have aging skin, they had mature skin. I can recall thinking how much better the term sounded. It was certainly more appealing and had a more positive connotation. Does not everyone want to be considered mature?

Then an interesting thing happened; I suddenly found myself a part of the mature category and very quickly decided that mature was not at all what I wanted to be. It was then that I decided on the perfectly appropriate term to describe skin that is beginning to see its more senior years – sophisticated. Yes, that is my word for it. I have sophisticated skin. So, forget about age-prevention or management because it is all sophistication. Feel free to use the term at your discretion.

Regardless of the term used, the facts have yet to change. Although the aging process cannot be stopped, the means to maintain healthy, youthful skin long into the time of sophistication are available. The secrets have not changed, and they most likely never will. What has changed are the tools that are now accessible and the knowledge to use them.

So, what are the secrets to sophisticated skin – sun protection, hydration, vitamin C, antioxidant protection, and promoting cell renewal. With the over thirty years that I have been in this business, I have noticed that the objectives have never changed. However, the quality of products, ingredients, and equipment have hands-down raised the bar in the skin care industry.

Stay involved and stay in the know because every day there is something new available.
