Pomegranate the Ancient Red Goddess October 2010

Pomegranate the Ancient Red Goddess!

by Natalie Pergar

Cranberr facial mask

Known not only as part of the elite group of super fruits, the all mighty pomegranate, English word comes from the Latin words for apple; "pomum" (apple) and "granatus" (seeded), has been dated as far back as 1,000 BC and was introduced to North America by Spanish settlers in 1769. This red beauty represents global symbolism and history ranging from righteousness, prosperity, and fertility.

With over 760 varieties of pomegranate it is one of the oldest known medicines to man. Ancient Greek healers would use pomegranate juice to manage health problems similar to arthritis, circulation problems, digestive disorders, and infections. And to add to the wonders of the pomegranate, the fruit was also involved in ancient beauty concoctions. Today with our growing beauty culture and desire to turn back the clock, we find ourselves revisiting what our ancient friends already knew with the help of modern science and research.

Pomegranates are packed with phytonutrients, vitamin B, and an abundance of vitamin C. They contain red arils, tiny edible seeds that are loaded with juice and provide valuable fiber. They are delicious and fantastic to eat - though I would not recommend eating the white membrane that surrounds the arils as it is quite bitter and the consensus is that it is not recommended. And for those of us that count calories, a 1/2 cup of raw pomegranate has 80 calories and 0 grams of fat!

According to the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), pomegranate fruit extract contains several polyphenols and anthocyanidins (pigment that gives certain fruits their dark red colors). Its antioxidant activity is higher than that of red wine and green tea and research suggests that pomegranate extract may have significant clinical benefits in decreasing risk for skin cancer.

By taking pomegranate extract capsules, one could reduce or reverse the signs of aging by promoting cell turnover and creating new, healthy skin. But that is not all! Evidence shows that including it in your skin care regime can provide wonderful results too. Rich in ellagic acid to manage free radicals, pomegranate oil contains punicic acid, an omega 5 conjugated fatty acid effective in aiding cell regeneration and proliferation. Pomegranate also carries beneficial phytoestrogen and a rare plant-based source of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA), an anti-carcinogen.

So I salute you, oh red goddess of history. Bring me health and wellness with all your super fruit power!

Pomegranate, Almond Oil, and Honey Mask

½ pomegranate
2 tsp almond oil
½ tbsp organic honey

Warm up the honey until it becomes liquid (not too hot!) by putting it in a small glass or metal bowl which is immersed in hot water. Peel the pomegranate half, cut the fruit in pieces, and put these in a bowl or food processor. Add the honey and almond oil. Blend it all into a smooth and uniform paste. Spread this gently and equally with your fingertips on your clean face and neck: keep the eye area clear. Now lie down, relax, and leave the mask on for 20 minutes. Then, wash it off with lukewarm water and end with a splash of cold water; pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Finally, apply a moisturizer, this way you "seal" your skin to keep the water inside. (For all skin types). *This fruit mask recipe peels your skin and we do not recommend using it on acne skin.

Pomegranate Oat Bran Scrub

2 ounces pomegranate juice
2 ounces orange juice
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp sea salt
3 to 4 ounces oat bran

1. In a container large enough to hold two cups, combine pomegranate and orange juices. To this add the honey and mix together well.
2. Now add sea salt and oat bran. Mix together and allow the oat bran to soak up the liquids, about 10 to 20 minutes.
3. Make sure to apply to a clean face. Probably the easiest way is to apply in the shower after you clean your face and allow it to set while you do other things. The steam from the shower helps allow the ingredients to penetrate your skin. Then, gently scrub off as you shower.

Dealing with Teenage Acne October 2010

Dealing with Teenage Acne

Cranberr facial mask

by Jaskiran Brar

The teenage years are wondrous days filled with new discoveries, fun, and friends. For a number of kids, these years are also filled with acne. In addition to causing painful whiteheads, blackheads, and red lumps, acne can leave scars and affect self-esteem during those critical adolescent years.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, between 85 – 95 percent of American teenagers develop acne, and many of them will continue to battle the condition into their 20s and 30s.

A number of factors such as diet, personal hygiene, genetics, and hormones seem to play into the incidence of teenage acne. During puberty, hormone levels surge, often causing a hardening of the oil in the pores of the skin, preventing sebum from naturally making its way to the surface.

While almost all teenagers experience a few zits, the severity of the problem depends on hereditary factors. Over time, untreated acne can even leave permanent scarring, not to mention the emotional distress the teenager has to endure.

Along with good nutrition and healthy lifestyle, regular skin treatments during adolescence can make a world of difference in a teenager's complexion. Parents need to address the condition early, and make sure their teens follow proper skin care routines at home. A diligently followed routine, along with regular acne facials, for many of these teenagers can mean the difference between smooth glowing skin and permanent scarring.

Flower Power

Digging into the Newest Plant Cell Breakthroughs

Science seems like a very artificial and synthetic thing, where compounds are manipulated in sterile spaces by people wearing white coats and latex gloves. But incredibly, the latest breakthrough in beautiful skin comes from the earth and sea itself, and from some of the garden's most deliriously sensual flowers.
Botanicals have been used in cosmetics for centuries. But today, utilizing plant stem cell technology, we are able to extract cells from plants and cultivate them in the laboratory, multiplying their potency by literally 1,000 times or more than that which is present in the naturally occurring molecule.

Germaine de Capuccini's Excel Therapy O2

Five Star Formulators

The Excel Therapy O2 innovative facial program is an exclusive method created by Germaine de Capuccini, to provide effective actions against the signs of aging skin.

>> STEP 1 – Starting Protocol
Help the client enter into a pleasant state of relaxation that will have a positive effect on the results of the session. In order to achieve relaxation, make the client comfortable on the treatment table, making sure that they feel well wrapped and leave the neck and décolletage uncovered for the initial contact. Then continue with the protocol using massage movements on all the cranio-facial points: Head, eyes, ears, mouth, neck, shoulders, and décolletage. Duration: Five minutes.

>> STEP 2 – Apply OPTIMALAGE Facial Serum
Spread the contents of the vial on face, neck, and décolletage using light upward touches until totally absorbed. Then, carry out the following pressing movements using a warm towel:

  • On the sides of the face – using your palms
  • On neck, chin, cheeks, temples, eyes, and forehead
  • From the jaw to the forehead using your thumbs
  • Around the mouth
  • On the nasolabial fold
  • From the cheeks to the temples
  • On the temples
  • Five pumping movements on the tear ducts + pumping movements on the eye-contour area
  • On the eye-contour area
  • Three times on the eyes
  • From the beginning of the eyebrows to the hairline using your thumbs alternately
  • From the middle of the forehead to the temples
  • On the forehead, eyes, and temples. Follow with the cheeks, chin, and neck. Repeat in reverse order

>> STEP 3 – Apply Dx- O2 PERFORMANCE Facial Massage Cream
Apply the cream on face, neck, and décolletage with gentle lissages. Place a medium-sized towel under the client's neck and carry out pressing movements on shoulders and trapezius muscles using the ends of the towel. Leave it under the neck so that the latter remains still for the application of the mask.

>> STEP 4 – Apply AGE-GUARD PATCH Facial Mask
Place the facial mask (the piece for the forehead) and adapt it to the area to be treated keeping bubbles from appearing in the skin contact area. Apply the piece of the mask for the neck over the lower chin and the neck, fitting it well to the jaw area and using the same application method as with the other pieces. Leave it in place for 20 minutes. After this time, take it off, pulling from the sides.

>> STEP 5- Carry out thermal contrasts using towels on the face
Apply the cold towel (2") and carry out pressing movements with the palms over the towel. Then put the warm towel in place (2"). Repeat the previous movements. Lastly, apply the cold towel (2"). Repeat the above movements once more.

>> STEP 6 – Apply CONTINUOUS DEFENSE Essential Youthfulness Emulsion
As the final step of the treatment, apply the CONTINUOUS DEFENSE Essential Youthfulness Emulsion on the face, neck, and décolletage with a gentle massage until it is totally absorbed.

Details, Details, Details...

I have the best job in the world. I get paid to visit spas and experience spa services all over the world. I also own a spa and get to evaluate my staff members by receiving facials, massages, and body treatments from them on a regular basis. Not a bad gig, huh?
As you might imagine, when I talk about what I do, people tend to ooh and aah, mention that they’d gladly trade places with me, and then ask for a free sample of massage from me on the spot.

Oleaslim Cellulite Treatment

The deep action of essential oils combined with gentle heat makes Oleaslim an effective treatment to detoxify, regulate fluid balance, and eliminate cellulite for slimming and body remodeling. The blend of pine, lavender, juniper, thyme, mint, sage, plus caffeine promotes the enzymatic process of lipolysis, relieves edema, and increases oxygen content in the tissues while the heat increases blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. The overall result is increased wellness, reduction of cellulite, and dramatic inch loss.
1 Set up the massage table with a three zone heating blanket (heats to 115°F), sheet, and plastic drop cloth for sanitation. Preheat the blanket. Position client face up for the first treatment if measurements will be taken. All other sessions begin with the client lying face down.
2 Dry brush the body following the path of lymphatic drainage. Apply Oleaslim generously on the entire dorsal body surface beginning on the soles of the feet and working upward.

3 Have client roll over and repeat the dry brushing and the Oleaslim application. Apply Oleaslim on the bust line only if the client wants to reduce the bust.

4 Fold the plastic loosely around the client and close the blanket to create a cocoon. (Do not “mummy wrap” individual areas, as this will only impede circulation and drainage.) Place a pillow or folded towel under the head and set the blanket timer for 30 minutes. Some clients may need a few extra minutes for adequate circulatory activation. For best results, clients should remain in the heating blanket for 10 minutes after perspiration begins.
5 Add several drops of Hygia (a cleansing and disinfecting essential oil blend) to a bowl of
warm water.
6 Open the layers of the cocoon and wipe away perspiration and toxins with a cloth dipped in the Hygia/water mix. Rinse cloth frequently and dry each area when clean. Roll the client over, remove the plastic, and repeat the rinsing on the back.
7 Apply Slim (the sister product for home use similar to the professional Oleaslim) lightly to each area and massage lightly. Have client roll over and apply Slim to the front side. Repeat the measurements and calculate the overall inch loss.

Oleaslim Treatments are performed in a series of two treatments per week for a total of 10 sessions. All clients must drink at least eight glasses of water every day to flush toxins, maximize inch loss, and ensure adequate hydration. Always perform a health history consultation to avoid contraindications such as pregnancy, lactation, hypertension, etc.

Wrinkle Relax with Oligopeptides

Our skin is constantly subject to environmental stress and photo aging which eventually leads to wrinkles. To rejuvenate aging skin, patented peptides of Argireline®, Myoxinol®, and MatrixylTM 3000 are incorporated in this non-invasive, rejuvenating treatment. Regular application helps reduce the depth and length of expression lines and wrinkles, increase skin density, improve elasticity and moisture retention, restoring the skin’s natural resilience.
Protocol:

1 Cleanse: Cleanse skin and remove makeup with Rice Bran Cleansing Lotion.

2 Tone: Apply Refreshing Skin Toner to tone the skin.

3 Exfoliate: Apply Enzyme Peel Crème on the forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, neck, and décolleté to exfoliate the surface dead cells. Leave on for five minutes. (Option: turn on the steamer for five minutes and turn it off.) Then, gommage the Enzyme Peel Creme off and remove the residue completely with damp sponges.

4 Hydrophilic massage: Dissolve the two patches of Algae Mask, Silk Protein in a mixing bowl with 1/4 oz (7 ml) of Phyto Mask Activator until the patches transform into a gel. Massage the gel on the face gently for 10 to 15 minutes to prepare the skin for ingredient absorption and penetration. Remove the residue.

5 Hydrophilic concentrate: Apply half the vial of the hydrophilic Collagen Elastin Treatment Ampoule, followed by a few drops of the Hydra Peptide Serum over the face.

6 Activate the Collagen Fiber Mask, Oligopeptides with 1.7 oz (50 ml) of Phyto Mask Activator. Through occlusion, the activated mask that contains the patented vegetal peptides of Myoxinol®, peptides extracted from Hibiscus Esculentus Seeds, helps to reduce the formation of dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles and reducing muscle contraction. (See images 6A - 6D.)

7 Remove the mask by rolling down from the hairline after 30 minutes. Apply the other half of the vial of the Collagen Elastin Treatment Ampoule, then a few drops of Hydra Peptide Serum to seal the treatment result. Protect with SPF 30 Phyto Sunblock.
