Enlarged Pores

Written by

Enlarged Pores – small microscopic, tube-like openings of the sebaceous glands on the surface of the skin that allow cooling perspiration and protective oils to reach the skin’s surface. The actual size of the pore is determined by the amount of sebum that is produced and discharged from the follicular canal; the more produced, the more the pore is stretched to accommodate the quantity of sebum being secreted. It is estimated that an individual has as many as one million pores per square inch of skin.

Case Study: A 33 year-old female client has arrived at your spa for a facial because she has been experiencing an increase in pimples. She has been routinely washing her face at home, but it has not given her the results she is looking for. So she decides to schedule a facial in hopes that it will make the unwanted acne go away. However, during the consultation you notice that she has enlarged pores – leading you to believe they might be problem – filling up with oil, dirt and bacteria resulting in pimples and blackheads.
