A Bride’s Best Makeup

Written by   Michelle Richardson, L.E., freelance makeup artist and co-owner of California Makeup Academy

When preparing for a wedding, most women spend weeks or even months choosing the right dress and finding the perfect shoes. They will also devote time to selecting the wardrobe for the entire bridal party. However, despite all of this planning, many women wait until the last minute to plan their makeup and hair application. As a skilled makeup artist it is important to be able to listen to the bride's needs and wishes while also making the client look soft, beautiful, and like themselves.

Brides that choose not to use a professional makeup artist, but attempt to do the application themselves using tutorial videos as a guide, most often fail to create a camera-ready look. As a professional, makeup services are important to overall business and an increased bank account. The following few steps will help professionals create a soft, fresh, and beautiful look for bridal clients.

SKIN
When it comes to the client’s skin, professionals should moisturize well and apply a lightweight foundation.

CHEEKS
For the cheeks, a cream blush looks the most natural. A powder blush is also a good option if it is applied with a large, round brush. For clients with a fair or cool skin tone, pink is a great and gorgeous color choice. For those with a warm or deeper skin tone, a peach color should be used instead.

EYES
When doing the bride’s eye makeup, do not use bold eyeshadow colors unless she insists. Instead, use neutral, soft, and warm matte colors for the best results because colors often photograph darker. Using a highlighter with a slight shimmer with help open the eyes and false eyelashes are always a great choice. If the client does not have eyelash extensions, super curled eyelashes and copious mascara will help to achieve a similar look.

EYEBROWS
The secret to full and soft eyebrows is to use a duo eyebrow powder whenever possible. Brush the eyebrow hairs upward to give the client a more natural, finished look.

LIPS
A strong lip color is all the rage and displays exceptionally well in photographs. However, professionals should adapt to the client’s taste in tone
and intensity.

Be sure to gain the proper education and learn the proper camera-ready bridal makeup. Figure out the looks that are as unique as the client on her special day! Well put together makeup unifies the whole look and allows the bride to be the most beautiful version of herself!
