I went to MAC the other day to purchase my favorite BB Cream with the SPF of 50.  I kept looking at the testers that the store had on display and could only find SPF 35 in my Medium Dark BB Cream.  This young, Bettie Paige, MAC representative approached me, wearing her hair in a sultry pinup design and flashy red lips, asking if I needed her help.  I told her I needed the BB Cream that had the 50 SPF, she dropped her head down and let out an apologetic sigh as she told me that MAC no longer sales anything over a SPF of 35 because of the new FDA (Federal Drug Administration) regulations.

Banana Boat had 2 other sunscreens along with the Sport,

Banana Boat had 2 other sunscreens along with the Sport, “Kids” and “Ultra Defense”.

Remembering back to a recent training I was in for a skincare line from Barcelona that was making its way into the states, they addressed the new regulations in regards to sunscreen.   For years sunscreen has been used by millions of people and within the last decade it has seemed that the SPF number has kept rising from 4, 8, 15, 20, 25, 35, 45, 50, 60, 70, 85, 100 and there even existed a sunscreen that had an SPF of 110, made by two well known skincare brands, Banana Boat and Neutrogena.  Now the FDA has decided to put a SPF limit on the manufacturer and that limit is 35.

One of the most difficult way of improving skin condition is avoiding stress. Difficult because it is nearly impossible for people to avoid feeling stressed. Students for example have so many writing projects to do. They also have to study overnight to make sure that they will pass their exams.

However, avoiding stress, is actually a very effective way of improving your skin moisture, color, and overall beauty. Every time people feel stressed or tired, their skin don't get enough nutrients to replenish and develop. So the cells become unhealthy.

But how can you avoid stress? There are tricks, here are few of them:

Don’t you think that by now we would all understand that when we make a post on Facebook the entire world has the ability to see it? How many of us (I am mostly referring to women) even have ways of seeing people’s profiles who we are not friends with because someone we know will do a little snooping on our behalf? There are no secrets on Facebook – not even if you block someone.

So what does this have to do with business?

I have had my jaw hit the ground more than once from seeing the level of unprofessionalism floating around on accounts that are used for both personal and professional purposes.

Elmer's Glue for Blackheads?!?

I was watching ENews, one of my favorite entertainment shows, in fact the only one I watch, and they had a segment where the fabulous Giuliana Rancic (she always has me laughing with her witty remarks and comebacks) was hosting along with Jason Kennedy (he has a gentleman’s demeanor and child’s curiosity) where they had a special expert guest on set talking about skincare.  Of course, curiosity got the best of me and I started watching even more intently.

The special expert guest was showing how everyday household items can be used on your skin.  On the table in front of them were various items and the one that caught my attention the most was Elmer’s glue.  Yep, Elmer’s glue.  That fun and messy glue you use as a kid to glue just about any construction paper together and great for putting on glitter.  The more glitter you sprinkled on the glue, the more globby it got.  As a kid, globby was good!

Nostalgia set in as I remembered those fun childhood times with glue and I had to know exactly, what could glue do for the skin?  The special expert guest (I apologize for not knowing her name) stated that Elemer’s glue is good for removing blackheads like a Biore pore strip.  Reaaalllly? Hmmmm….So, Jason Kennedy tried as best as he could to apply some Elmer’s glue to the special expert guest’s face which was a hilarious site to watch being that he first started above her lip and then got close to her eye.  She was a good sport and genuinely laughed her way through the random placements of the glue by Jason Kennedy saying at one point, “Not the messy part”.

The winter blues play melancholy sounds to our skin, repeating the same sounds over and over, singing “the sun’s not shining… the sun’s not shining” in a slow deliverance.  Our skin responds with a hollow whisper, “I need sunshine…I need light”.  We may be in spring but the winter still wants to linger around as much as it possibly can.  The winter months are full of gloomy skies, short days and long nights.  We don’t receive the adequate amount of daylight that needs to feed our brain with that “feel good” sensation.  Some people begin to suffer from the winter blues, also known as, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) a form of depression.

The winter blues not only may cause depression but it also keeps away the sun from our skin.  The sun is what nurtures our skin with vitamin D.  The picture on the left depicts the importance of vitamin D for our skin.  The young children are clothed only in their underwear because in order for our bodies to receive the highest dose of vitamin D, the ultraviolet rays need to hit our skin directly.  Only 10 minutes of direct ultraviolet exposure from the mid-day sun rays on bare skin is all we need everyday for our recommended dose of Vitamin D.

I have a Big Butt and I Cannot Lie

Rick Butts wrote a book in 2002 titled The Big Butts of Life. Of course, he meant 'buts'; however, I believe his point was that we need to get off our rears and stop making excuses for tackling our life’s goals. That and it was a play on his unfortunate last name.

If I had a Big But…

I shouldn't say IF I had a big but. I should say THAT I have a big but. We all have excuses for why we are not accomplishing our goals at any given time. In going through the list he calls the 'dirty dozen,' I most certainly can say that indecision is mine. The big, nasty I DON'T KNOW excuse. Not time, money, my age or the ongoing list of other excuses. It is simply having to make a choice. When you make a choice it is not always that you choose one particular thing, it is that you say no to all of your other options.
