| Term | Definition |
| Database | a collection of data arranged for ease and speed of search and retrieval |
| Degenerative Diseases | A disease in which the function or structure of the affected tissues or organs will progressively deteriorate over time |
| Dehydrated | To lose water or bodily fluids |
| Dermabrasion | A procedure for smoothing skin by abrading the outer layer with a rotating metal wire |
| Dermal | Of or relating to the skin or dermis |
| Dermal Epidermal Junction | The section of the skin where the epidermis and dermis connect; also known as the basement membrane |
| Dermal papilla | An elevation of the projecting corium under the surface of the hair bulb. It contains capillaries through which a hair receives its nourishment. |
| Dermaplaning | A procedure for smoothing the skin by shaving off the outer layer of the skin |
| Dermatosis | Any disease of the skin |
| Dermis | The sensitive connective tissue layer of the skin located below the epidermis, containing nerve endings, sweat and sebaceous glands, and blood and lymph vessels |
| Desquamation | The cellular renewal process of the epidermis |
| Detoxification | Metabolic process by which the toxic qualities of a poison/toxin are reduced by the body |
| Digestion | process of breaking down big food particles into individual molecules |
| Digestive system | the organ system that breaks down and absorbs nutrients that are essential for growth and maintenance; the digestive system includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, (intestines), rectum, and anus |
| Dihydrotestosterone | A derivative of testosterone believed to be responsible for increased sebum production in the sebaceous glands |
| Dihydroxyacetone | a simple carbohydrate that is primarily used as an ingredient in sunless tanning products; often derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane, by the fermentation of glycerin |
| Direct Current | An even and uninterrupted flowing current |
